  • Wash Basin Buying Guide : Everything you need to know about

Are you planning to buy a wash basin. Below is a buying guide that will help you make the right decision.

The Basin is one of the most important part of your Bathroom, so it is worth taking the time to choose a basin that will complement your bathroom design and yet be comfortable to use.

At Decure.in we have an exhaustive range of Wash Basins of different styles and designs from the best Brands; and you can buy them online from the comforts of your house.

    Types of basins:

    Full Pedestal Basin:

This is the classic Basin style that most of us know about and is the first style that comes to our mind when we think of Basins.

In a full pedestal basin, there is a pedestal below the basin that goes all the way to the bathroom floor and hides all the pipe work. The Basin is mounted on the wall, so the pedestal isn’t taking the full weight of the basin

The full pedestal Basin can be used to conceal pipe work going into the floor of the basin. If your pipe work goes into the wall, prefer a Semi-Pedestal or Wall Mounted Basin

    Pro:

Classic, evergreen design. Conceals the piping systems

    Cons:

Usually takes up more space and blocks the bathroom floor

    Semi Pedestal Basin:

The Semi Pedestal Basin is wall mounted and supported by, as the name suggests, a semi pedestal. The pedestal is a perfect way to hide the pipe work and yet give an elegant chic look to your bathroom.

The full pedestal Basin can be used to conceal pipe work going into the wall of the bathroom.

    Pro:

For a clean modern look that does not take away floor space below the sink.

    Cons:

May be difficult to make a cupboard below the sink

    Wall Mounted Basins:

As opposed to a Pedestal or Semi-pedestal basin, wall mounted basins save space while same time looking elegant. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are best placed for some serious space saving

One of the other advantages of the wall mounted basins is that they can be fixed at any height. This is especially useful if you want to install a small basin at a lower height in your kids’ bathroom

    Pro:

Modern, contemporary option. Space saver, adjustable height

    Cons:

    Plumbing pipes may be exposed

    Table Top/ Vessel/ Bowl Basins:

This type of Basin is installed on top of the bathroom counter or vanity cabinet. It appears like it is a separate bowl on top of the counter. It gives a modern and luxurious look and is the in-trend style as far as wash basins are concerned.

Counter Top basins come in a wide range of shapes and sizes to suit your bathroom. The pipe work will be hidden below the counter or in the cabinet below.

    Pros:

Trendy, modern and luxurious look. Space for a counter/vanity cabinet below the basin

    Con:

Will need a counter for installation/ may take up more space

    Semi Recessed Basin:

A semi recessed Basin is partly sunk into the bathroom counter/vanity cabinet structure. This means that only the basin rim is visible and protruding out of the cabinet/counter line. The pipe work will be hidden below the counter or in the cabinet below.

    Pro:

Space for a counter/vanity cabinet below the basin

    Cons:

May take up space below in the cabinet

    Counter Top Basin:

Similar to the Semi Recessed Basin, this type of basin is sunk into the counter or cabinet, with only a thin rim visible from above. This type of Basin is best suited to give prominence to your furniture and ensure the sink blends well with it.

    Free Standing Basin:

As the name suggests, these basins are not installed against any support and stand independently. These basins can be used to create a very modern and luxury look for Bathrooms and can be best used for artistic elegance.

    Below Counter Basin:

Here the basin is installed below the bathroom counter so as to give a smooth and unhindered look to the Bathroom counte.

  • Top 5 Features to look for in a Chimney

Planning to buy a chimney? Below are the top 5 features to look for in a chimney:

    Low Noise Chimneys:

If you want your chimney to operate quietly, then you can opt for a low Noise Chimney. Most brands have a low noise series.

Elica has a low noise series called EDS Chimneys. Also, quite a few models have a variation with the word ‘ETB’ in the name. These too relatively low noise chimneys.

Faber has a low noise series called “SUNZI” series

    Auto Clean Chimneys:

Auto clean chimneys can self clean. On selecting the auto Clean mode, the coil around the motor heats up and causes the oil and grease particles stuck in the filter to melt. These particles are collected in an Oil collector cup and removed. Auto clean feature helps in reducing the time taken to clean the chimney and such chimneys require lower maintenance.

IMPORTANT: Most auto clean chimneys can be used in DUCTED mode only. So it is advisable to check with the seller about the ducting requirements before selecting an Auto clean chimney.

    Auto Fume Sensors:

An auto fume sensor will turn on the chimney automatically when cooking fumes are detected

    Timer:

Chimney with Timers can be pre-set to switch off after a set time

    Filter Change Indicator:

The chimney will indicate that it is time to change the charcoal filters- this helps in timely changing and proper maintenance of the chimney

    Stainless Sinks:

A classic and industrial-looking choice, stainless steel sinksare practical and stylish. Stainless steel sinks are hard-wearing and easy to clean, easy to take care of andincapable of being cracked. On the flip side, stainless steel sinks get scratch marks over long usage

    Composite Quartz Sinks:

If you’re looking for more strength and durability, choose a composite quartz sink. They can withstand very high temperatures and are highly scratch resistant. On the flip side they are expensive, and not very common yet in India

Quartz sinks are available in a variety of colours and finishes – like stone finish, granite finish etc

Double Bowl: For large kitchens, with lots of space for all your kitchen multitasking

2.5 Bowl: For large kitchens. Keep your cleaned, dirty kitchenware and washed vegetables segregated

The half bowl in 1.5 and 2.5 bowl sinks is a smaller and shallower bowl, and its primary purpose is for washing fruits and vegetables, separating cutlery from the washing pile

Buying a Sink with Drain board :

Firstly, what is a drainboard: The drainboard is the ribbed flat portion right next to the sink bowl

The drainboard is an ideal place for drying hand washed utensils, vegetables etc. Since it is ribbed and sloped, the water drains down directly into the sink.

While it is high on utility, the drainboard will take away some of your kitchen top space. Prefer a sink with out drainboard for small kitchens

    Special Shape:

    These are designer sinks

    Sink Accessories

    Waste Disposal Units:

A hygienic way to deal with food disposal. Fits under the sink. As a use case concept, waste disposal units are still not very popular in India

    Waste Coupling:

The waste couplers are used to prevent clogging of drain pipes. They can be removed, emptied and put back in the sink

    Bottom Grids:

For water to drain off while the vessels are in the sink

    Drain Pipes:

Drain Pipes are required to move the water from the sink to the drainage pipe. They may or may not be included in the Sink package. Always inquire about this.

    Additional Drain Boards:

Can be put on top of the sink bowl and used as a drainboard

    Chopping Boards:

Can be put on top of the sink bowl to create additional space in the kitchen. It’s a useful product for small kitchens.
